Templates are pre-designed files that you or somebody else (like Microsoft) generates to use as a pattern for a job. The template may be for a business card, brochure, resume, presentation. . .the list goes on. Irrespective of the purpose, templates provide the design consistency that any organization (or individual) needs to look professional. (you could also find templates for Excel, PowerPoint, and other applications, but in this article we are focusing on Microsoft Word.)
The template includes a specific design, style, layout and, occasionally, text and fields which are common to every use of that template. Some templates are really complete (for instance, business cards), you merely have to alter somebody’s name, contact number, and email address. Others, like company reports or brochures, could demand that everything is changed except the design and layout.
Once you make a template, then you can use it repeatedly. Remember that while you start a template to start a job, you save the project as another file type, like the simple .docx Word format, such as editing, sharing, printing, and much more. The template file remains the same, unless or until you want to alter it (more on this later).
Customized templates can be as straightforward or complex as needed. By way of example, you might create a template for your company’s newsletter, posters for a conference, or invitations for corporate occasions. You could even create interactive templates to load the Intranet, so others can fill in the blanks to publish their own envelopes and letterhead, for instance.
First, create a document–design and format it, add graphics and photographs. When it’s interactive, select Controls from the Developer tab and make custom input fields for user interaction.
Some templates utilize interactive controls for user input. For instance, imagine that after a month, the branch managers, assistant managers, and loan originators of a large banking institution have a meeting at one of the 12 branches. It is your assistant’s task to email the date, time, location, speakers, topics, and agenda to each attendee. Instead of have that person retype the information at a regular template, you may create a template where options can be chosen from a list.
Templates allow you to configure all the relevant settings you need pre-applied to documents–page design, styles, formatting, tabs, boilerplate text, and so on. You may then easily make a new file based on that template.
After you save a document as a template, then you can then use that template to create new documents. Those new files include all the text (and images( and other content) the template contains. They also have all the exact same page layout settings, segments, and fashions as the template. Templates can save you a great deal of time when you’re creating multiple documents which need to have a consistent design, format, and a few boilerplate text.
